Questions from The Marcko Guy
Is there any movie you tend to rewatch a lot more than others?
Well I definitely watch The Muppet Christmas Carol and Groundhog Day every year and I also love putting Sideways and Beavis and Butt-Head do America on now and again. Actually haven’t seen those two in a while, I should probably get round to it . . .
What’s your favorite band or artist?
R.E.M.
Do you listen to any podcasts (if so, which)?
Not as many as I probably should; I tune into Kermode and Mayo whenever I can and maybe catch an episode of Talking Stars.
Are you good at cooking?
Not really. I used to quite adventurous, got into baking quite a bit, but these days I can’t really be bothered.
How many movies did you watch in the cinema in 2016?
27. And now that I have a Limitless card, I’ll hopefully be seeing a lot more this year!
Most anticipated movie of this year (2017)?
Probably Logan. And Wonder Woman to see if the DCEU can finally get it right.
Have you ever broken a bone?
No, I’m far too boring and I’ve never done anything exciting enough that would result in bone breaking.
Do you have any pets?
Sadly not. Though my old house did have a family of hedgehogs that were occasionally found on the lawn . . . 😊
What’s a movie that you think is very overrated?
At the risk of angering film purists, The Wizard of Oz. It’s aged badly and both Judy Garland and “Over the Rainbow” are far too overrated. Sorry, film fans!
Do you own any movie/TV/video game merchandise?
Yeah, a few bits and pieces: Assassin’s Creed and Twin Peaks mugs, Big Bang Theory bobbleheads, Guardians of the Galaxy/Star Trek/Avengers posters and Star Trek and Parks and Recreation signed framed prints.
Is there any place in the world that you really want to visit before you die?
Northern Ireland because it’s the only country in the UK that I haven’t been yet.
Questions from The Cozy Chronicles
DCU or Marvel?
Probably Marvel but DC’s just as good, though the MCU is currently putting the DCEU to shame!
Do you have a favourite director?
Probably Billy Wilder – I haven’t seen a bad film of his yet, they’re all excellent.
Did you have a favourite song from 2016?
Well from the movies, it’s either Ricky’s Birthday Song in Wilderpeople or “Riddle of the Model” from Sing Street!
But in general, it has to be Sia’s “Cheap Thrills” – alongside “Can’t Stop the Feeling”, it’s pretty much the only good song from the 2016 charts.
Got a favourite Superhero?
Batman, I think. Or Iron Man . . .
What’s your favourite season of the year?
Spring – it’s great to see things come to life. Especially the lambs! 😊
Do you have any siblings?
Yep, an older sister.
Have you fallen asleep during any film at the cinema?
Don’t think so.
Do you like going to live music gigs?
I haven’t been to one in a while but if there’s someone I really like doing a live gig, I’m up for it.
Do you prefer comics or film adaptations?
I’ve never read a comic, so film adaptation it is!
Would you prefer to read the book before seeing the film adaptation?
Hmmm. I think film first because in general, film adaptations don’t quite live up to the expectations that you develop after reading the original book. So film first and then you can go back to the book and see what they missed. If that makes ANY sense!
Do you prefer watching or reading film reviews?
Reading reviews works for me but it’s refreshing to watch someone review something once in a while, provided its succinct and just the right length.
Questions from Moustache Movie News
What inspired you to start a blog?
I wanted an outlet for my filmTV opinions, having previously used the Amazon review page and sending emails to Kermode and Mayo. I set up the blog but didn’t get started for a few months until my sister suggested that I should get a film blog going. And the next day (I think) I wrote my first post.
What’s your most anticipated movie of 2017?
Probably Logan. And Wonder Woman to see if the DCEU can finally get it right.
You’re hosting a screening event for several hundred people, what movie will you show them?
Off the top of my head, Wadjda – a beautiful film, the first and I think only film so far to be filmed in Saudi Arabia, shot by a female director, wonderful Qu’ran recitals. I think the timing’s quite appropriate.
What’s your most quotable movie?
Hot Fuzz, I think
What historical event would you like to see depicted in a movie
Would Trump’s presidency count?
You can visit the set of one upcoming movie, which one would you visit and why?
Probably any one of the upcoming DCEU movies – to tell ’em to get their act together! Or to possibly meet Margot Robbie . . . 😉
The Emoji Movie, quirky idea or sign Hollywood has lost the plot?
Oh, the second one definitely. A completely pointless idea and I’ll clearly be giving it a wide berth.
What movie or movies most influenced your childhood?
Maybe the Lord of the Rings trilogy or 12 Angry Men.
Which of those movies do you most look forward to showing your children?
12 Angry Men, I think.
Of all the nominations for Best Picture at this years Oscars, which one do you think will win and which one do you want to win?
I guess either La La Land or Moonlight are in with a pretty good shot. I’d want Manchester by the Sea to win.
What are your top five movies?
- Sideways
- Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
- Goodfellas
- Double Indemnity
- Fargo
Questions from Keith Loves Movies
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Watch film and TV, write/read reviews, Twitter and maybe read a book chapter or two.
What would like to do if you had more time?
Make more of an effort to read more or to see more films.
If you can only watch one movie or TV show the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
Gotta be Parks and Recreation. Will always love it.
What is your favorite TV show right now?
I’m not watching as many series as I could be but Taboo is a particular highlight.
What was your favorite movie of 2016?
Captain America: Civil War
What was your least favorite movie of 2016?
Suicide Squad
What is your most anticipated movie of 2017?
Logan
What is your least anticipated movie of 2017?
The Emoji Movie
Any movie or TV guilty pleasures?
Well, Beavis and Butt-Head do America is one of my favourite films and maybe Freaky Friday (remake) if it’s on TV.
What is your Best Picture winner at this year’s Oscars?
Manchester by the Sea
Do you still watch trailers?
Not as much as everyone else but if it’s for a film that I’m anxious about, I’m there. Then again, I sometimes can’t resist trailers for movies that I don’t like the look of. Like Fifty Shades Darker. You’ve just got to watch that one for laughs.
