“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2” review: On Fire? Not Quite

On the positive side, there are some excellent performances, especially from Jennifer Lawrence and Donald Sutherland as well as a number very exciting set pieces. I also really liked the ending; the franchise ended on a satisfying melancholy note.

However, most everything in between the handful of exciting scenes is regrettably quite dull, mostly consisting of characters simply saying things that need to be done or ranting off an inspirational speech or two; certain pivotal scenes towards the end were also underwhelming and anticlimactic. It is clear that splitting the book into two parts was miscalculation.

In summary, this is unfortunately the weakest film in the series and though there are some very well executed action scenes and a great ending, there are also too many dull moments and there is simply not enough going on to hold our interest.

  1. I also found this movie to just be “okay”. It was a good finale, and didn’t come close to ruining the franchise. But with that said, I really think splitting this single story into 2 parts was a poor decision. It’s the pacing issues that drag Mockingjay as a whole down quite a bit.

Keep up the great work. Love your writing. Be sure to check out my reviews if you get the chance. I look forward to reading more of your stuff!
